With the pivot into heel is it just routine that she will pick it up? I feel like I can always lure her that way but she has yet to offer that behavior.
Fair point on the "ah ah." I just have to learn to keep my mouth shut. I know I expect a lot from her bc I KNOW she can do it. It's just working with each session's mental state of hers.
Thank you for participating in Rockin' Rally-O Group Version: Trial by Fire.🤣 I'm still not sure what homework forum system makes the most sense.
Very nice distance work. She's confident moving away from you to go to the target. That's wonderful and a big deal! You can check this off your list.
Pivot into heel is in the next level. (Obviously I know you were instructed on it already.) But that's on its way as well.
Continuous pivoting (extra credit assignment) - we might have to do some research to find out how people with bigger dogs do this. But you can just have her get as far as she can and then reset her, for now. Maybe have her get to you and dance around her somehow??? Step behind her casually?
At like 1:51 when you say "yes," does she get the treat? If she didn't get the reward, that could be why she starts trying other things (reeling back, falling off). I think more so than hand position etc., you asked for too much too quickly. This is really physically and mentally challenging work, and so it's easy for the dogs to get frustrated and/or give up. I definitely wouldn't "ah ah" anything she does here, because she is trying her diddly dang best. I only "ah ah" if the dog does something egregious like try to jump at me or something, and even then I would ask myself why that happened.
I have to be careful to make sure that I protect Cupid's emotional state when we do this, because he can get so frustrated when he accidentally falls off due to him losing his balance. I make sure he gets reinforced for less in between asking him for more.
Post any follow up to continuous pivoting in the extra credit thread. 😁 So I can sit down in the future and just watch all of my student dogs spin in circles back to back. Edit: JK you already did that
